So how was your tea last week?

I hope it wasn't the only cup you had this past week and I hope that you took time for yourself in other ways too. I promised to tell you, this week, why it's so important to take time for yourself.

(Warning: I could talk about this for hours on end, but I won't burden you โ€“ I'll try to be concise.)

This is so important!

It's legitimate for you to want to do things whether it's for yourself, your family or humanity.

And it's great that you want to do a lot and do it well.

But it's unrealistic to think that we can do and do and give and give without taking care of the doer or the giver (that's you!).

You know that no one else can breathe for you and no one else can eat for you or sleep for you. But for some reason I have a feeling that when it comes to resting and taking time for yourself, it might not be so clear.

Very often we get mixed up and think that we are "Human Doers" rather than "Human Beings", and we judge ourselves on what we DO. Or how much we DO. Or how well we DO. We get so focused on the DOing that we forget about BEing.

When we do and do and do we sometimes forget to breathe well, eat well and rest. We breathe shallowly, don't nourish our bodies properly and sleep for the minimum we can.

And we're even worse when it comes to just simply having fun - for ourselves, taking it easy- for ourselves, doing things to make us happy "for no good reason".

You are a human being. Take care of that being, so that you can do.

You are a child of God. You have a place in this world.

You are important.

Not just for what you do, but for who you are.

It should be obvious to all of us why it's imperative to take time for ourselves whether it be to rest or to engage in activities that make us feel good (no other reason necessary!).

But for some reason it's not.

I'm here to remind you to take time for yourself.

You can have another cup of tea if you like or you can do something else. Just remember to take the time to take care of you!

Shabbat Shalom,

Chani
